IMPORTANT!

When using a 'Chip-kaart' it is important to remember to check in when you embark a bus or tram and check-out when you disembark.

For trains this works a little different. You check-in when you enter the train-station and you check-out when you leave the station.

The fare is calculated over the distance between the station where you checked in and the station where you checked out.

NO CASH

For safety reasons transport companies decided to abolish cash transactions when buying tickets from the driver in buses and trams in a transition period running from March 2017 to somewhere mid-2018.

The situation at present ( september 2017):

Connexxion buses (eg 197 and N97): cash payments still possible at least until first half 2018

GVB (buses and trams Amsterdam area): No cash payments possible in buses. You can buy tickets at GVB Servicepoints. Trams will follow suit starting with line 26 since July 7.

Lost and Found (for GVB trams, buses and metro)

The GVB makes use of the services of iLost to enable passengers to retrieve anything they might have forgotten while disembarking here.
